The Project
The Viana General Hospital, located in Luanda, Angola is being developed by VAMED in a turn-key basis. The scope for this project includes the complete design, the development of the entire medical equipment and engineering, as well as all construction works and installation.
This new hospital is located on a land of around 25,000 m2, and consists of a 3-storey main building and 5 smaller satellite buildings that function autonomously (the Maintenance Building, the Morgue Building, the Laundry Building, the Cafeteria Building and the Technical Building), essentially made up of ground floor and roof structures. In terms of services, it has five operating theatres, eight inpatient wards, a centralised diagnostic centre, an emergency service, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, orthopaedics and general medicine.

VAMED France, in consortium with EIFFAGE and EGIS, is developing four 200-bed Regional Hospitals in Guinea. Phase 1 includes Kindia and Labé; optional Phase 2 covers Kankan and N’zerekore. VAMED France is responsible for medical equipment—engineering, procurement, delivery, installation, commissioning, and a one-year warranty. Site preparation has begun in Kindia, with formal commencement expected in March 2024. Beyond supplying MEQ, VAMED was selected as the healthcare expert for the project, providing technical advisory support across the full value chain of these turnkey hospital developments.

The Project
With four hospitals delivered in 2022, VAMED France is now the leading healthcare operator in Côte d’Ivoire. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for two new General Hospitals and one Regional Hospital, currently in the final decision phase. In 2023, VAMED HQ (Vienna), VAMED France (Paris), and VAMED Côte d’Ivoire (Abidjan) jointly advanced three new hospital projects under a “Protocole d’Accord” with the Ministry of Health. Each facility (100–110 beds, 10,000–12,000 m²) will include Emergency, Outpatient, Internal and Surgical Medicine, Pediatrics, Gynecology, a Metabolic Diseases Unit, MEQ (incl. CT), and Labs. Preliminary designs were validated in November 2023; final negotiations are underway.

The Project

The Project
The Hospital Santiago II is a successful project execution of VAMED Engineering in terms of the highest altitude (over 4.100 meters). The Project
VAMED was commissioned to review the Client’s strategy to expand healthcare provision in San Fernando, leading to the redesign of an existing shopping mall and office complex. The scope included functional concept, engineering, project management, renovation, supply and installation of medical and electro-mechanical equipment, training, and maintenance. Pediatric and adult outpatient clinics, internal medicine, imaging, and laboratory departments were established across 8 inpatient floors. An adjacent office building was also converted into a healthcare facility, upgrading ventilation, lighting, and electrical systems to hospital standards. A complete reorganization of internal spaces was carried out. Additional departments included maternity, pediatrics, pharmacy, and a teaching facility.

VAMED built a new emergency department and modernized the imaging and maternity units at the Bertha Calderón Mother and Child Hospital in Managua, Nicaragua. This upgrade makes it the most modern facility of its kind in the country. The project marks a major step in providing proper healthcare services, especially for high-risk pregnancies, benefiting some of the most vulnerable populations. The improved hospital infrastructure meets a critical need for better healthcare in the capital. The successful implementation was celebrated as a major achievement for the citizens of Managua. The new departments were officially inaugurated by the chairwoman of the local women’s committee, in the presence of the Minister of Health.

The Project
Following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, VAMED and Hilfswerk Austria delivered a fully equipped community hospital in St. Louis-du-Nord within 7 months. Built using container construction, the facility includes an operating room, observation ward, outpatient clinic, pharmacy, water treatment, and electricity supply. As a pro-bono project for earthquake survivors, it addressed urgent needs in medical care and sanitation. The hospital quickly became a vital refuge and was recognized by the public health authority as one of the most important health facilities in the region.

The German Armed Forces Hospital Ulm (BWK), the largest military hospital in southern Germany, serves both military and civilian patients and is affiliated with the University Hospital of Ulm. Since 2009, Hospitalia international gmbh has delivered multiple projects at BWK, including upgrades to Emergency, OR, Endoscopy, Pathology, and ICU areas. In 2023, Hospitalia won the tender to renew equipment in the Pathology Lab and Pharmacy. The scope included planning, supply, installation, staff training, and commissioning of analytical systems, safety cabinets, and GMP-compliant isolators. Tasks followed strict quality protocols, including mockups, FAT, IQ, and OQ, ensuring full integration and compliance.

The new supra-regional Hospital Voecklabruck, completed in 2004, includes 11 wards, an IT competence center, education center, parking garage, and a Red Cross station. The facility is designed to handle 180,000 medical examinations, 8,600 surgeries (including acute and day clinic cases), and around 25,000 hospitalizations annually. As part of the expansion, a new radiotherapy center was constructed, featuring two linear accelerators and nuclear medicine, along with a dedicated palliative care department. These upgrades were supported by additional infrastructure, including the new IT center and parking garage, enhancing both medical and operational capacity.

The Project
In Muscat’s Airport Heights, the Sultanate of Oman is constructing the Royal Oman Police Hospital, spanning 185,000 m² with an initial capacity of 459 beds, expandable to 600. The hospital will serve military and security personnel and their families, offering care in oncology, traumatology, pediatrics, gynecology, cardiology, and surgery. VAMED was awarded project management and MEP systems supply, including Medical Gas Systems, Nurse Call System, Laminar Flow & Critical Environment Diffusers, and a Photovoltaic System. VAMED also handles the supply, installation, testing, commissioning, training, and 3-year warranty for the full Medical & Laboratory Equipment Package.

The Project
Located on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, SEAWORLD is a new indoor marine animal theme park opened in August 2023 under the SeaWorld Group license. VAMED Engineering was awarded the contract in April 2021 following a successful tender. The scope included project management, engineering, site supervision, and the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of 485 medical and laboratory equipment line items. These serve the park’s animal care center, reproductive labs, and marine animal research medical center. The project was accepted in February 2023 and includes a 2-year comprehensive warranty. VAMED ensured high standards for animal health and research support.

The Morphology Center, opened in July 2016 during the “Health” exhibition, is the first facility of its kind in Turkmenistan. It combines university-level training in anatomy, classical and molecular pathology, and forensic medicine. Highlights include virtual anatomy workstations, allowing students and future forensic doctors to perform 3D virtual examinations of the human body. The center also features advanced forensic capabilities, including state-of-the-art chromatography for detecting substances like drugs and alcohol, virtual autopsies using CT, and a high-tech electronic facial reconstruction system. This unique facility marks a major advancement in medical and forensic sciences in Turkmenistan.
