To reduce maternal and newborn mortality, Kenya’s Ministry of Health is modernizing 20 maternity and neonatal units across 12 counties, with support from VAMED. The project enhances access to skilled care for low-income families, minimizing travel and costs. VAMED is responsible for design, construction, refurbishment, equipment supply, and staff training, with 36 months of maintenance included. The facilities will receive 177 beds, 26 delivery beds, 7 operating theatres, and essential equipment like incubators, ventilators, and oxygen generators. Training covers hygiene, emergency care, and includes a four-week observership in Finland. This initiative strengthens rural healthcare and improves maternal and newborn outcomes.
